Orphir school's green cone and trees

We use our Green cone for food waste from the nursery and staff room. Pupils from p1-3 take the food and carry it out to the Green cone.

The Green cone works when we put food in and worms eat it then produce compost (waste).

We use our Green cone instead of shipping it off to get burned or sent to the dump, which will create less pollution and give us plant food. It is a good way to recycle because it stops fossil fuel being used to ship it across to get burned and gives food to the worms.

We also planted a small forest of ash, Holly, Hazel, hawthorn, Bird cherry, elder, dog rose, alder, Corsican pine and birch. We planted them to provide habitat for wild animals and birds. Trees breathe in carbon- dioxide and breathe out oxygen and are very eco-friendly.

  1. Well done guys. I love the new posts on your blog. Some of the trees look like they have grown quite a bit since we planted them 3 years ago.

  2. You have made a really good start! I love the pictures of your compost bin and your forest.
Maybe you could select a tree each, measure it now before it starts growing this year, and then measure it again in June and in August. See if you or the tree has grown more.
